Duration Multiplier Calculator
Standard Formula
Adjusted Duration = Elapsed Hours × Multiplier (default 1.5×)
Multiplies time intervals by 1.5×, commonly used for compensatory time off (comp time) calculations.
How Duration Multiplier Calculator Works?
The Duration Multiplier Calculator works by multiplying elapsed hours by a factor, 1.5 by default. 6.5 overtime hours × 1.5 equals 9.75 hours of compensatory time.
1Enter the duration
Type elapsed hours, 6.5 by default.
2Enter the multiplier
Type the factor, 1.5 by default.
3Read the multiplied time
The tool returns 9.75 hours.
4Check clock format
9.75 hours = 9h 45m of comp time earned.
Duration Multiplier Calculator Formula
The Duration Multiplier Calculator formula is Adjusted Duration = Elapsed Hours × Multiplier.
Adjusted duration
Adjusted = Hours × Multiplier
Comp time earned
Comp Time = OT Hours × 1.5
- Hours
- Elapsed time in decimal hours.
- Multiplier
- Scaling factor.
- Comp Time
- Paid time off earned in place of overtime cash.
Worked example: public-sector comp time
A city employee works 12 overtime hours. Comp time = 12 × 1.5 = 18 hours.
At $28.00 per hour, the 18 hours carry a value of $504.00, equal to 12 hours of overtime pay.

What is Duration Multiplier Calculator?
A Duration Multiplier Calculator is a tool that scales a time interval by a factor such as 1.5, most often to compute compensatory time off (comp time).
Under Section 7(o) of the FLSA, public agencies can grant comp time at 1.5 hours per overtime hour instead of cash. Workers can bank up to 240 hours, or 480 hours in public safety, emergency response and seasonal roles.
Private-sector employers cannot replace overtime cash with comp time for non-exempt workers. A private employer can adjust hours inside the same workweek to stay under 40.
